Conditions associated with hoarseness:

(1) vocal cord polyp

(2) vocal cord nodule

(3) vocal cord granuloma

(4) vocal cord cyst

(5) laryngeal papilloma

(6) squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx

(7) gastroesophageal reflux laryngitis

(8) viral or bacterial laryngitis

(9) tubercular or fungal laryngitis

(10) allergic laryngitis

(11) unilateral vocal cord paralysis

(12) spasmodic dysphonia

(13) Parkinson's disease

(14) essential tremor

(15) cerebrovascular accident

(16) vocal abuse

(17) vocal cord atrophy

(18) vocal cord scarring

(19) hypothyroidism (myxedematous laryngitis)

(20) muscle tension dysphonia

(21) Reinke's edema (an accumulation of fluid in the vocal cords associated with smoking, voice abuse and reflux laryngitis)

(22) drugs
