Description

Yamano et al developed a simple classification and regression tree (CART) model for patients with sepsis who were treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) for more than 2 weeks. This is based on readily available laboratory tests. The authors are from Nagasaki University, Osaka University and the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center in Osaka, Japan.

Patient selection: patient treated in the ICU for more than 2 weeks after being admitted for sepsis (“prolonged sepsis”)

Parameters:

(1) minimum serum total cholesterol in mg/dL during the first 14 days in the ICU

(2) maximum serum total bilirubin in mg/dL during the first 14 days in the ICU
