A distal radius fracture may be followed by the carpal tunnel syndrome.
Types of carpal tunnel syndrome developing after distal radius fracture:
(1) acute onset(within hours or days of injury)
(2) delayed onset (weeks, months or years afterwards)
(3) transient
Acute CTS may require emergent/urgent surgery.
Risk factors for CTS:
(1) ORIF
(2) diabetes mellitus
