Description

A hard hat that has been appropriately selected for the work conditions must be properly maintained if it is to function properly. The hard hat consists of the shell and the suspension and must be comfortable while protective.

General rules:

(1) Examine the shell and suspension before each use for signs of damage (cracks, cuts, dents, frayed straps, tears).

(2) The hard hat should be disposed of if it has received a significant impact or damage, even if there is no visible damage.

(3) Stickers with self-adhesive backing may be applied if they do not interfere with hard hat function and the adhesive does not harm the shell.

(4) Bandanas, skull caps, hoods or welder's caps can be worn if they do not interfere with the ability of the suspension to work properly during an impact or comfort.

(5) Other forms of PPE should not interfere with the hard hat function or comfort.

Prohibitions:

(1) Do not store the hat in direct sunlight or near high heat.

(2) Do not expose the hat or its components to solvents or other chemicals that may cause damage.

(3) Do not paint a hard hat unless the paint has been approved by the manufacturer as safe to use.

(4) Do not add any metallic material in stickers or head coverings.

(5) Do not place stickers at the helmet's edge or where they should not block vision.

(6) Do not attempt to hide damage to the hard hat by stickers or paint.

(7) Do not wear baseball caps or other head coverings that may interfere with the suspension's ability to work properly during an impact.
