Description

Shao et al reported a risk index for evaluating a patient after ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI). This was associated with short and long-term survival. The authors are from Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College in Beijing.

This index is related to the age shock index.

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) heart rate in beats per minute

(3) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

risk index =

= (heart rate) * (((age) / 10)^2) / (systolic blood pressure)

Interpretation:

• The higher the index the greater the mortality.

• An index > 34 had the highest mortality.rate.

Index

Mortality Rate at 12 Months

<= 15

4.8

15.01 to 20

6.1

20.01 to 34

13.6

> 34

32.5

Performance:

• For predicting mortality over periods ranging from 0 to 12 months the ROC was 0.78.
