Evaluation

Are you trying to control the spread of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria?

Do you regularly screen?

• all Gram-negative bacilli for carbapenem susceptibility?

• all Gram-negative bacilli that are resistant to carabpenem for carbapenemase?

• all Gram-negative bacteria that are resistant to 3rd generation cephalosporins for carbapenemase?

Do you screen all patients?

• who come from an area where the resistant organism has been identified?

• who have been identified in the past with the resistant organism?

• who have shared a room or been in contact with a patient with the resistant organism?

Do you?

• perform molecular testing on the recovered isolates to support epidemiologic investigations?

• place all patients harboring resistant organisms on contact isolation?

• improve hand hygiene?

• completely decontaminate infected items or else dispose of them after terminal cleaning?

• increase the level of environmental cleaning?
