Description

Ruiz-Ruigomez et al reported the CaMed Score to predict the risk of candidemia in non-ICU medical patients who are non-neutropenic. This can help to identify a patient who should be investigated for candidemia. The authors are from multiple institutions in Spain.

Patient selection: medical, non-neutropenic, non-ICU

Parameters:

(1) sex of the patient

(2) steroid therapy

(3) history of prior antibiotic therapy

(4) total parenteral nutrition (TPN)

(5) urinary catheterization

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 10

• A score >=7 had a sensitivity of 79% and specificity of 83%, with a Youden index of 0.62.
