The aspirin equivalent dose (AED) for a nonaspirin salicyate can be estimated from the aspirin conversion factor (ACF) and amount of the compound ingested.
For a liquid formulation:
mL of pure salicylate ingested =
= (grams salicylate per mL liquid formulation) * (mL of liquid formulation) / (specific gravity of liquid salicylate in g per mL)
AED in grams aspirin =
= (mL of pure liquid salicylate ingested) * (aspirin conversion factor)
For a solid formulation:
AED in mg aspirin =
= (number of tablets or pills ingested) * (amount of salicylate in mg per tablet or pill) * (aspirin conversion factor)
