The external ear may become whole or partially calcified in a number of disorders. The calcium deposition may be in the auricular cartilage in conditions with chondritis.

Synonyms: porcelain ear, petrified ear


Conditions associated with a calcified ear:

(1) chronic ear trauma

(2) relapsing polychondritis

(3) disorder of calcium homeostasis with dystrophic calcification or calcinosis cutis


Examples of disorders of calcium homeostasis:

(1) pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism

(2) Primrose syndrome
