Benicke et al reported a new formula for fluid resuscitation of burn patients. This is supposed to provide a more accurate estimate of initial fluid requirements. The authors are from City Hospital Cologne-Merheim, University of Witten/Herdeck, University of Michigan and University of Bochum.
Patient selection: severe burns, >= 16 years of age, percent BSA with significant burns >= 20%
Parameters:
(1) body weight in kilograms
(2) percent total body surface area with significant burns
(3) inhalation injury
(4) age in years
(5) blood alcohol
