Deployment of an airbag can result in a burn of the passenger.
Mechanism: chemical (alkaline) and/or thermal (from high temperature of expanding gas)
Commonly affected sites:
(1) arms
(2) hands
(3) face
(4) eyes
Most burns are superficial but full-thickness burn can occur.
Ocular burns may be associated with permanent impairment of vision.
