Breynia officinalis is a perennial shrub that grows in southern China, Taiwan and Okinawa. It has been used in traditional Chinese remedies but is toxic.

Toxins: terpenic glucosides and phenolic glycosides (turpinionoside B, betulalbuside A, breyniaionosides, arbutin, robustaside A, eximine, others)
Clinical features:
(1) dizziness
(2) nausea and/or vomiting
(3) abdominal fullness
(4) diarrhea
(5) hepatocellular hepatotoxicity, which can be severe
The severity of the intoxication is dose-dependent.
