Breast Cancer | Risk for Coronary Artery Stenosis Following Radiation Therapy

Purpose: To identify a woman at high risk for coronary artery stenosis following radiation therapy for breast cancer based on the study of Nilsson et al.

Description

Nilsson et al evaluated women for coronary artery stenosis secondary to radiation therapy for breast cancer. The authors are from University Hospital Uppsala and King’s College London.


 

Patient selection: woman receiving radiation therapy for breast cancer

 

Outcome: high grade stenosis of a coronary artery (3 to 5 on a scale of 0 to 5)

Radiation Delivery

Site at High Risk for Significant Stenosis

right internal mammary lymph node chain

proximal right

left internal mammary lymph node chain

mid and distal left anterior descending and/or distal diagnonal

left breast and left chest wall

mid and distal left anterior descending and/or distal diagnonal

 

If a patient was not high risk then she was classified as low risk.
