A person who has undergone high-voltage electrical injury may develop serious bowel injury.
The bowel injury can occur:
(1) due to tissue necrosis as the electrical current traverses the abdomen
(2) secondary to abdominal compartment syndrome
Complications:
(1) bowel perforation with peritonitis
(2) bowel fistula formation
(3) sepsis
