Description

Morgan and Pollard modified the bolus test dose technique of Harrison (above) for dosing vecuronium. The original method was suitable for procedures of 2.5 hours or longer, while the new method can be used to for surgical procedures of shorter duration. The authors are from Manchester Royal Infirmary in England.

Loading IV dose: 0.1 mg/kg

Subsequent IV bolus given after return of T1 in the train-of-four: 2 or 4 mg

Parameters:

(1) duration of effect of the subsequent IV bolus (Figure 2, page 653)

(2) duration of effect of the initial intubating dose (Figure 3, page 653)

predicted infusion rate based on 2 mg bolus in mg per hour =

= 10^((-0.85 * LOG10(duration of effect in minutes)) + 1.59)

predicted infusion rate based on 4 mg bolus in mg per hour =

= 10^((-0.77 * LOG10(duration of effect in minutes)) + 1.73)

predicted infusion rate based on duration of effect from the initial dose mg per hour =

= 10^((-1.022 * LOG10(duration of effect in minutes)) + 2.003)
