Bobble-Head Doll Syndrome (BHDS) is a rare head movement disorder that occurs with an intracranial process.
Feature: involuntary head movements with a frequency of 2-3 Hz
Patterns:
(1) yes-yes: repeated flexion and extension noddings of the head (vertical)
(2) no-no: repeated side-to-side movements (horizontal)
It is usually associated with a condition causing obstructive hydrocephalus.
Causes include:
(1) arachnoid cyst (suprasellar, other)
(2) tuberculous meningitis
(3) cyst or tumor obstructing the third ventricle
(4) Dandy-Walker syndrome
(5) other causes of aqueductal stenosis
Accompanying features may include:
(1) macrocephaly
(2) psychiatric disorder (hypomania, autism, other)
(3) ataxia
(4) endocrine disorders
(5) vomiting
