Description

Trichosporon species can cause bloodstream infections and fungemia.


Risk factors for bloodstream infections with a Trichosporon species:

(1) neutropenia

(2) immunosuppression

(3) burn

(4) intravascular catheter or device

(5) intravenous drug abuse

(6) premature infant

(7) hematologic or solid malignancy

 

When treating a bloodstream infection it is important to use MIC to antifungal agents to help guide therapy since resistance may be present.
