Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a slowly progressive disease tending to affect the elderly. While initially manifesting itself usually as a lymphocytosis, as the course progresses there may be lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, anemia and thrombocytopenia. Binet et al developed a staging system which correlates with survival.

Survival (months)
A
hemoglobin >= 10 g/dL
platelet count >= 100,000/µL
< 3 areas involved
> 120
B
hemoglobin >= 10 g/dL
platelet count >= 100,000/µL
