Raja and Benedetto reported the BIMA (Bilateral Internal Mammary Artery) score for patients undergoing a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedure. This can help to determine the risk for a deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) followiing surgery.
Parameters:
(1) age of the patient from 20 to 95 years of age
(2) left ventricular ejection fraction
(3) diabetes
(4) body mass index (BMI) from 20 to 40 kg per square meter
(5) sex
points for age =
= (1.2533 * (age)) - 25.06667
points for BMI if internal mammary arteries not used =
= (5 * (BMI)) - 100
points for BMI if internal mammary arteries used =
= (1.84 * (BMI)) + 25

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 351
• For a score less than 94 points the risk of DSWI was less than 1%.
value of X for a score greater than 94 =
= (0.018068 * (score)) - 6.2892
probability of deep sternal wound infection =
= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))
