Description

The uvula occasionally may be split along its length.


Normally the uvula resembles an inverted pyramid. With a bifid uvula the uvula is split along its long axis. The extent of the cleft varies from small to large.

 

Occurrence:

(1) It may be an isolated finding, but it can also be seen with many hereditary disorders.

(2) It may be associated with submucous cleft palate.

(3) It may be associated with other occult congenital anomalies.
