Houtkooper et al reported equations for estimated fat-free mass (FFM) in pediatric patients using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The authors are from the University of Arizona at Tucson.

Patient selection: age 10 to 14 years of age, Caucasian

(1) height in cm

(2) resistance in Ohms (presumably 50kHz)

(3) weight in kilograms

predicted fat-free mass in kilograms =

= (0.61 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.25 * (weight)) + 1.31
