BIA Equation of Horlick et al for Total Body Water (TBW) in Pediatric Patients

Description

Horlick et al reported bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) equations for predicting body composition of pediatric patients. One equation was for total body water (TBW). The authors are from the Children's Hospital of New York, Columbia University and NIH.

Patient selection: age 4-18 years of age

Parameters:

(1) height in cm

(2) resistance in Ohms at 50 kHz

(3) weight in kilograms

total body water in liters =

= (0.475 * ((height)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.14 * (weight)) + 0.725

Performance:

• The r-squared was 0.955.
