The ratio of serum beta2-microglobulin to the lymphocyte count may have prognostic significance.
Beta2-microglobulin is light chain subunit of major histocompatibility complex I antigens is present on the surface of all nucleated cells.
Parameters:
(1) beta2-microglobulin concentration in mg/L
(2) absolute lymphocyte count in 10^9/L
beta2-microglobulin to absolute lymphocyte ratio =
= (beta2-microglobulin) / (absolute lymphocyte count)
Interpretation:
• For patients with nasal type extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma a ratio > 4.87 was associated with worse prognosis.
