Description

A number of behaviors may help to identify a person who may be more likely to become an active shooter. A bigger problem is what should be done when such a person has been identified.

Risk factors seen in a person who may become an active shooter:

(1) development of a personal grievance, real or imagined

(2) mental illness with delusions or paranoia

(3) recent significant real or perceived loss

(4) negative changes in behavior or performance (isolation, bizarre behavior, depression, etc)

(5) inappropriate interest in and/or acquisition of guns, explosives or other weapons

(6) inappropriate interest in previous shootings or mass attacks

(7) past history of stalking, making threats or acts of aggression
