Synonym: ulcerapterygoidea
Mechanism: possibly traumatic injury from artificial nipples
Clinical features:
(1) suckling infant from 2 days to 6 weeks of age
(2) associated with mild fever, reduced intake, irritability and a change in feeding habits
(3) an exam shows ulcers on the posterior palate
(4) ulcers are shallow and symmetrical
(5) the ulcers spontaneous regress, or heal if a cause can be identified and corrected
(6) no other diagnosis explains the findings better
