Description

Bourges et al reported the BAsic SEverity Score for Common OculaR Emergencies (BaSe SCOrE) to aid in initial triage of an ocular emergency based on the clinical severity. This can be helpful when an ophthalmologist is not readily available. The authors are from Paris Descartes School of Medicine, Universite Sorbonne and INSERM.

The scoring system recognized 4 categories: anterior segment, posterior segment, trauma and following ocular surgery.

Conditions affecting the anterior segment weighted in severity from 0 (least) to 6 (most) severe.
