The Bariatric Analysis and Reporting Outcome System (BAROS) can describe the outcome following bariatric surgery.


Patient selection: status/post bariatric surgery

 

Parameters:

(1) weight loss as percent of excess

(2) medical conditions

(3) quality of life questionnaire

(3a) usually I feel

(3b) I enjoy physical activities

(3c) I have satisfactory social contacts

(3d) I am able to work

(3e) the pleasure that I get out of sex is

(3f) the way I approach food

(4) complications

(5) reoperation

The 6 quality of life questions are graded from -0.50 to +0.50 with 10 stages, with-0.50 very poor and +0.50 very good.

Interpretation:

• minimum subscore for QOL: -3

• maximum subscore for QOL: +3

• minimum score: -7
