Description

Kim et al reported the BACES score to predict mortality for a patient with a lung infection caused by a nontuberculous mycobacterium. The authors are from Armed Forces Capital Hospital, Seoul National University, and Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul.

BACES is an acronym based on the first letter of the 5 parameters.

Patient selection: nontuberculous mycobacterial lung infection

Parameters:

(1) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

(2) age in year

(3) lung cavity on chest imaging

(4) elevated ESR

(5) sex
