Description

A traveler needs to practice common sense when in and around his or her lodgings. While a person can get away with not taking precautions, one assault or robbery is too many.

Steps to avoid assault or robbery:

(1) Travel outside at night in a group..

(2) Do not display expensive items or money.

(3) When walking at night avoid dark or poorly lit areas.

(4) Return to the lodgings at night by the main entrance.

(6) Use all of the locks on the door. Do not leave the door open or unlocked.

(7) Do not invite strangers into your room.

(8) If someone knocks on the door and asks for admittance, then do not unlock the door until the reasons for requesting admittance have been verified. Demand some form of identification.

(9) Make sure that all connecting doors, windows and patio doors are locked and secure.

(10) Report any suspicious-looking individuals or activities.

(11) Avoid intoxication unless sure of companions and surroundings.

(12) If traveling by car, then park the car in a secure area. Keep the windows closed and the doors locked.
