Description

Autophony refers to a person whose own voice sounds abnormally loud.

Conditions associated with autophony:

(1) superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome (SSCDS)

(2) patulous Eustachian tube syndrome

(3) serous otitis media

(4) occlusion of the external ear canal

A patient with SSCDS may notice both amplification of other sounds (chewing, breathing, heart beat etc) and the ability to hear unexpected things like eye movements.
