Some autoimmune conditions may precede or existing concomitantly with marginal zone lymphoma (MZL)
Autoimmune conditions associated with MZL include:
(1) idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
(2) autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA)
(3) Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
(4) rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
Autoimmune hemolytic disease (AIHD) was associated with a worse prognosis in patients with splenic MZL.
Therapy with rituximab may exacerbate an autoimmune disorder so should be used with caution.
