Description

Fernando et al reported the Australian Injury Comorbidity Index (AICI) for evaluating an injured patient admitted to the hospital. One scoring identifies patients at risk for 1-year mortality. The authors are from Monash University and the Victorian Agency for Health Information in Australia.

total score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 17 (article reports 19but includes double counts for diabetes and liver disease; if any malignancy and metatastic cancer are counted only once, then the maximum score is 16)

• The higher the score the greater the risk of 1-year mortality.
