Description

Davies et al reported a simple score for identifying a patient with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction who may have transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy. This can help to identify patients who may benefit from specialized testing. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Shinshu University Hospital, and Northwestern University.

Patient selection: heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) sex

(3) hypertension

(4) left ventricular ejection fraction in percent

(5) posterior wall thickness in mm

(6) relative wall thickness

relative wall thickness =

= ((septal wall thickness) + (posterior wall thickness)) / (LV end-diastolic diameter)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 11

• A score >= 6 indicates high risk.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is about 0.84.
