As the number of wolves increases the chances of human attacks increase.
Risk factors for a wolf attack:
(1) large pack
(2) hunger
(3) vulnerable person (child, injured)
(4) single human
(5) wolf illness and/or pain
(6) rabies
Hazards of a wolf attack:
(1) bite injury, especially of the neck and upper extremity
(2) rabies
(3) post-traumatic stress disorder
(4) rhabdomyolysis
(5) hemorrhage
(6) disfigurement
Differential diagnosis: Attacks by dogs or other animals may mimic a wolf attack. Molecular methods of any animal material can help to establish the attacking animal.
