Description

The Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) can be used to measure and monitor a patient's insomnia. This is based on criteria in the ICD-10. The authors are from Athens University in Athens.


Parameters over time frame, typically past month:

(1) delay in sleep induction (time between turning off lights and falling asleep)

(2) problems with awakenings during night

(3) final awakening earlier than desired

(4) sufficiency of total sleep duration

(5) overall satisfaction with sleep quality

(6) sense of well-being during the day

(7) ability to function mentally and physically during the day

(8) sleepiness during the day

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 24

• The higher the score the more severe the insomnia.
