Komori et al revised the Assessment of Blood Consumption (ABC) score for use in pediatric patients. The authors are from Juntendo University, Gunma University, National Defense Medical College and University of Tsukuba in Japan.
Patient selection: pediatric patient with blunt trauma, age < 16 years
Change from the original ABC score:
(1) replacement of "type of injury" (penetrating or not) with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)
(2) prediction is not for massive transfusion
(3) trauma is restricted to blunt trauma
Parameters:
(1) Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)
(2) systolic blood pressure on admission to the Emergency Department (ED)
(3) heart rate on admission to the ED
(4) FAST findings (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma)
