Description

Some patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin may show the aspirin "triad".


Findings of the aspirin "triad":

(1) aspirin intolerance

(2) chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis

(3) bronchial asthma

 

Additional findings:

(1) naso-ocular symptoms (profound nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, ocular injection)

(2) high rate of orbital complications

(3) eosinophilia in nasal secretions

 

(4) sensitivity to tartrazine (FD&C Yellow No. 5)

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) infectious sinusitis

(2) allergy to other agent
