Occasionally a bullet from a gunshot wound may embolize through the vascular system.
Risk factors:
(1) bullet fragmentation or gunshot/BB pellets
(2) vascular wound involving a large artery or vein
Vascular Wound

arterial
distal arterial embolism (distal extremity, kidney, brain)
venous
right ventricle or pulmonary artery
venous with patent foramen ovale

Very rarely a person may have both arterial and venous wounds, with combined patterns of embolization.
