Description

Mikaere et al reported the APPEND score for evaluating a patient for acute appendicitis. The authors are from Middlemore Hospital in New Zealand.


Patient selection: age >= 15 years with right iliac fossa pain <= 7 days

 

Parameters:

(A) anorexia

(P) migratory pain

(P) local peritonism

(E) elevated serum CRP (> 15 mg/L)

(N) neutrophilia (absolute neutrophil count > 7,500 per µL)

(D) dude (male gender)

 

Interpretation:

• minimum number of parameters present: 0

• maximum number of parameters present: 6
