The antisynthetase syndrome consists of a number of clinical and laboratory findings.
Antisynthetases are autoantibodies that target synthetases which are enzymes that catalyze the acetylation of transfer RNAs (tRNA synthetases).
Clinical features:
(1) interstitial lung disease with or without hemoptysis
(2) polyarthritis
(3) inflammatory myositis
(4) fever
(5) Raynaud's phenomenon
(6) "mechanic's hands" (thickened and cracked skin on the fingers and palms)
(7) variable skin rash
Antisynthetases include:
(1) anti-Jo1 (most common)
(2) anti-PL-12 (alanyl-tRNA synthetase)
(3) anti-PL-7
(4) other
Purpose: To evaluate a patient for the antisynthetase syndrome.
Specialty: Immunology/Rheumatology
Objective: clinical diagnosis, including family history for genetics
ICD-10: M35.8,
