Description

Anthia sexmaculata is a beetle that has spread from India to the Sahara. It ejects an acrid fluid in a manner similar to the bombardier beetles.


Common names: Egyptian predator beetle, oogenpisser (eye-squirter)

 

The beetle has an interesting life-cycle.

 

It squirts an acrid fluid from its anus which can cause:

(1) a chemical burn of the skin

(2) a chemical burn of the eye
