Description

A patient with traumatic globe rupture should have precautions taken during surgery.


Hazard: elevation of intraocular pressure can result in extrusion of ocular contents

 

Things that can elevate the intra-ocular pressure:

(1) coughing

(2) vomiting or retching

(3) crying

 

Prevention - deep plane anesthesia with:

(1) lower mean arterial pressure

(2) lower intra-ocular pressure
