Description

The androgen deprivation syndrome may develop in a man with prostate cancer treated by androgen deprivation.


 

Clinical features:

(1) history of androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer

(2) new onset or worsening of symptoms (see below) not explained by other cause

(3) low serum testosterone levels

(4) reversal of symptom on androgen replacement

(5) recurrence of symptoms on return to androgen deprivation

 

Symptoms - one or more of the following:

(1) emotional disturbance (anxiety, depression)

(2) cognitive disorder with impaired memory

(3) constitutional disorder

(3a) fatigue

(3b) malaise

(3c) unintended change in weight (anorexia or cachexia, abnormal weight gain)
