Description

Baik et al listed criteria for rating impairment in a patient with an anal disorder. This was one several rating systems developed by the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.

Disorder

Percent Physical Impairment

severe constipation requiring periodic enema or colonic irrigation, OR perineal descent syndrome causing continuous anal pain and/or constipation

0 to 9%

intermittent fecal incontinence of gas or liquid stool

10 to 19%

chronic anal fistula OR intermittent fecal incontinence of formed stool requiring continual treatment

20 to 35%

continuous fecal incontinence of formed stool associated with a disorder of the anal sphincter muscles

36 to 45%

Dysfunction caused by a disorder of anal sphincter muscles should be confirmed by manometry.

A condition that is correctable may result in temporary (non-permanent) impairment.
