Description

Amyand's hernia refers to the presence of the appendix in a right inguinal hernia sac.

Appendicitis in Amyand's hernia may occur in premature infants during the neonatal period.

Appendicitis in the hernia sac results in inguino-scrotal inflammation.

The presence of appendicitis may be confused with an incarcerated inguinal hernia.

The diagnosis can be made before surgery with imaging studies such as ultrasonography.
