Description

A patient taking amiodarone may develop drug-induced epididymitis.

Clinical findings:

(1) history of therapy with amiodarone, usually for several weeks

(2) no history of epididymitis prior to starting amiodarone

(3) swelling and/or pain in the scrotum

(4) noninfectious epididymitis

(5) exclusion of other causes of epididymitis

The condition is self-limited and may resolve without amiodarone discontinuation. Persistence of epididymitis after discontinuation of amiodarone should prompt an investigation for another cause.
