The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) reported criteria for the grading of perirectal abscess.
Parameters:
(1) location of the abscess
(2) additional clinical features
Clinical features: fever, perineal pain with or without swelling, tenderness, with positive culture
Imaging studies: MRI preferred but endorectal ultrasound or CT can demonstrate
