Description

Persistent hypoglycemia can result in permanent impairment that can be quantified using the AMA criteria.


 

Parameters:

(1) effectiveness of therapy (diet, medication, surgical resection of islet cell tumor)

(2) signs and symptoms

(3) ability to perform activities of daily living

 

Signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia:

(1) sweating, tremulousness, nervousness, faintness

(2) palpitations

(3) confusion or inappropriate behavior

(4) visual disturbances

(5) loss of consciousness

• Complications associated with surgery that lead to permanent impairment need to be combined with the hypoglycemia impairment for the whole person impairment.
