Description

Alopecia is not uncommon following critical illness. A survivor of the ICU should be informed of the risk in order to be better prepared for its occurrence.


The primary risk factor is sepsis or septic shock.

 

Other factors that may contribute to alopecia:

(1) pressure

(2) traction

(3) risk factors for telogen effluvium (psychological stress, medications, malnutrition, etc)
