Description

Vuylsteke et al developed clinical algorithms for screening pregnant women and female prostitutes in Zaire for gonococcal and/or chlamydial infections. These are intended to be an affordable method for resource-poor settings.

Interpretation:

• minimum scores = 0

• maximum score for pregnant women: 48

• maximum score for female prostitute: 42

• A score > 28 for a pregnant woman is considered a positive screening, with a sensitivity of 72% and specificity 73.5%.

• A score > 8 for a female prostitute is considered a positive screening, with a sensitivity of 71% and specificity 55.8%.
